“It’s an impossible choice for data-dependent businesses today,” said Michael Ourabah, CEO of BSO. “Often, businesses are forced to choose between the best technology or the best service, bespoke solutions or out-of-the-box products, global reach or local knowledge. Digital transformation is no longer an agenda item or a boardroom priority. It is an imperative that, if not addressed, represents lost revenue, now.”

BSO has introduced a campaign highlighting the importance of mission-critical infrastructure during these difficult market conditions with the aim of addressing the intensifying role of connectivity post-pandemic, and driving increased transparency in an industry shrouded by complexity. AT&T Brings Secure, Automatic, Friction-Free Public Wi-Fi to Downtown Austin with Passpoint® and OpenRoaming™

AT&T continues its commitment to provide super-fast, secure and reliable Wi-Fi access supporting smart city innovation.

London, 26th May 2021 – The Wireless Broadband Alliance (WBA) today announced that AT&T has successfully completed a proof-of-concept trial of its Wi-Fi network with WBA OpenRoaming™ in areas of downtown Austin, Texas along 6th street and outside of Stubbs BBQ. The network showcases the future of public Wi-Fi, where OpenRoaming provides secure, automatic and friction-free access to any device using their public Wi-Fi network.

Crowd in 6th Street

Crowd in 6th Street

AT&T is the first major operator to trial deployment of WBA OpenRoaming™ in a high-density city network. WBA OpenRoaming frees users from constantly re-registering or re-entering log-in credentials enabling the convenience of instant network access, enterprise-grade security and a carrier-grade Wi-Fi experience.

Widespread easy access to public Wi-Fi in Austin enables residents to easily access services in the downtown area. While this is initially a trial proof of concept, in future the vision for OpenRoaming is one in which citizens will be able to stay connected in virtually any location across a city without worrying about potential security risks, ensuring cities and public spaces are more friendly to businesses, visitors and residents alike.

In the context of city deployments of WBA OpenRoaming, future deployments can see public Wi-Fi access in schools and libraries and other public domains, as demonstrated in Europe with the WiFi4EU initiatives, enabling secure access to the internet for research, schooling and business activities. The Canary Wharf deployment in the UK has already transformed the business district into a connected hub, allowing citizens to from street level to high rise offices while staying seamlessly connected with OpenRoaming enabled Wi-Fi.

Hotels, conference centres, restaurants, bars and retailers all stand to benefit from OpenRoaming technology. Good Wi-Fi, for instance, remains one of the top three reasons individuals choose one hotel over another. The technology also presents brands with countless opportunities to increase consumer engagement as they become part of a connected city experience, such as promoting special offers to individuals when they are near the premises.

“A cultural hotspot like downtown Austin, deserves the ultimate Wi-Fi hotspot: one that requires zero effort to access public Wi-Fi automatically, securely and reliably. That’s exactly the kind of user experience AT&T is providing with Wi-Fi CERTIFIED Passpoint® and WBA OpenRoaming. Once again, we’ve raised the bar for speed, security and convenience”, said JR Wilson, AT&T VP of Tower Strategy and Roaming.

Tiago Rodrigues, CEO of WBA said: “This trial is the first step to proving WBA OpenRoaming technology in a dense, urban location. This will be further developed during the summer of 2021 and commercial developments will come onboard.”

WBA OpenRoaming eliminates the hassle of re-registering or re-entering log-in credentials because it doesn’t rely on MAC addressing to enable users to join a network. Instead, users are automatically, securely and privately connected every time they’re within range of a WBA OpenRoaming hotspot — including AT&T’s Wi-Fi CERTIFIED Passpoint® Wi-Fi network in Austin.

According to Security Today editor-in-chief Ralph C. Jensen, “It is apparent that the COVID-19 pandemic had a very little effect upon product development and deployment in the government security sector. We appreciate all the manufacturers who labor diligently to ensure security in the government space, including federal, state, local, and Native American jurisdictions. We’re pleased to honor these winners and thank all those who participated in this amazing process.”

Enabling highly mobile IoT applications for state and local government public safety and security, the Rajant ES1 is a compact, lightweight IP67 network node that supports 4.95-5.85GHz. Beyond by BearingPoint teams up with MATRIXX Software to maximize CSPs' 5G and IoT monetization potential

This new joint offering will enable CSPs to rapidly bundle and sell real-time network capabilities with technology solutions, vertical industry applications and ecosystem partners

Amsterdam & Foster City, CA – May 19, 2021Beyond by BearingPoint and MATRIXX Software today announced they have partnered to give Communications Service Providers (CSPs) the ability to develop, sell and monetize 5G and IoT B2B solutions in real-time using a digital marketplace. The integration of Beyond’s Infonova Digital Business Platform with MATRIXX Software's Digital Commerce Platform will enable CSPs to combine connectivity and network slicing capabilities with technology solutions like IoT, Edge and Cloud, third party services and vertical industry applications to unlock new revenue and growth models.

Joint offering from Beyond and MATRIXX

Joint offering from Beyond and MATRIXX

5G capabilities create new opportunities for CSPs to automatically configure and monetize their networks in ways that were not previously possible. At the same time, 95% of enterprises and small to medium businesses (SMBs) recently surveyed believe that participating in an ecosystem of partners to create and deliver advanced solutions is more promising than the 5G network technology itself. It is imperative that CSPs bring together these two worlds by integrating new network offerings and revenue models with additional technologies, applications, and partner services, thus co-creating solutions that address evolving business-to-business (B2B) needs in the healthcare, industrial, transportation and public sector industries and beyond.

This partnership was created to enable CSPs to do exactly that, giving them the advantage of MATRIXX Software’s world leading 5G monetization capabilities, integrated with Beyond’s leading digital ecosystem orchestration and monetization platform.

“5G is about integrated solutions that require CSPs to seamlessly orchestrate and monetize several technologies and partner contributions often in real-time, which most IT environments cannot address today,” says Karl Whitelock, IDC research vice president, communications service provider operations and monetization. "To get the true value out of 5G, CSPs need to scale their IT to support a growing number of use cases and expanding number of partners, thereby requiring a digital ecosystem orchestration and monetization platform to meet these needs such as that defined by the Beyond and MATRIXX partnership."

The marrying of Beyond by BearingPoint and MATRIXX Software capabilities include:

  • Flexible and scalable real-time charging and monetization – dynamic real-time charging capabilities for 5G and network slicing, together with rapid packaging and pricing of connectivity with any partner’s devices, technologies and services including:
    • Session-based and SLA-based charging

    • Slice-aware charging

    • Charging for enterprise IT functions across solution partner and business customer organizations

  • Seamless order and service fulfilment – the orchestration of 5G solutions is automated using comprehensive order management and service fulfilment functionalities across any IT environment and partners’ systems via a single platform, while managing the technical dependencies between services.

  • Partner orchestration – the joint solution helps manage and monitor partner services including partner self-onboarding and flexible multi-partner settlement agreements.

  • Improved customer experience – together, the two companies provide customers with real-time exposure of services, utilization and balances, and accuracy and timeliness means their expectations are addressed; consequently, improving customer experience, accelerating time-to-market and reducing IT operating costs.

  • Fast and simple integration – both the Infonova Digital Business Platform and the MATRIXX Digital Commerce Platform solutions are cloud-native, microservices-based and developed with API-first architectures, facilitating integration with 4G, 5G and fixed network elements and supporting IT applications across any number of both native and partner IT landscapes. This also allows CSPs to start with the most desired service/use case and to scale with success.

“This partnership creates a best of both worlds scenario for CSPs looking to maximize the return on their massive 5G investments, as well as satisfy the B2B customer need for solutions that address their efficiency and growth challenges. Our joint solution will give CSPs the ability to monetize their network and effectively co-create and orchestrate those essential partner ecosystems,” said Angus Ward, CEO, Beyond by BearingPoint.

“We are thrilled to be collaborating with Beyond by BearingPoint to bring our partnership’s joint solution to the highly competitive CSP market,” added Glo Gordon, CEO, MATRIXX Software. “Working together, we are excited to make it possible for CSPs to offer market-winning solutions that rely on the agility and scalability of our joint, end-to-end monetization capabilities.”

In the first webinar, panelists will debate Dr. Peter Fader’s framework. Fader is professor of marketing at the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania and a representative of a customer centric approach. Fader believes that marketers must leverage customer lifetime value, arguing marketers generate the best results when they find the customers most likely to buy their product or service — and then finding more of them. Marketers should analyze behavioral data to understand and forecast customer shopping/purchasing activities.

Can you choose valuable customers for profitable outcomes?

Wednesday, May 19, 2021 - 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. CEST

"The approved TVWS framework in Kenya is a catalyst for digital growth," says Dynamic Spectrum Alliance

Washington D.C, USA, 18 May 2021: Today, the Dynamic Spectrum Alliance (DSA) compliments the Communications Authority of Kenya’s decision to approve the framework authorizing the use of a TV White Space (TVWS). The step will make a significant difference in addressing increasing capacity demands, especially in rural, underserved areas, helping to meet the objectives of the Kenya National Broadband Strategy to reach the remotest parts of the country, says Martha Suárez, President of the DSA.

The new TVWS framework will serve as a flexible way to make efficient use of spectrum while protecting existing and incumbent users from interference. The framework will play a key role in meeting the broadband penetration goals set in the Authority’s Strategic Plan (2018 – 2023).

“We are delighted to see that the TVWS framework will now be used to enable cost-effective broadband deployment to increase digital inclusion across Kenya. More opportunities for digital growth and innovation will now be possible” says Martha Suárez. “Following many years of advocating for TVWS in Kenya, we are thrilled to see the potential of TVWS realised as a catalyst to a digital future.”

The TVWS framework will allow lightly licensed white space devices to operate at locations where Ultra-High Frequency (UHF) bands are not in use by licensed services, while protecting primary users from receiving harmful interference.

As demand rapidly rises for high-quality broadband, this dynamic approach to spectrum sharing will play a vital role in supporting various use cases, including broadband data, Internet of Things (IoT), Super Wi-Fi, emergency communications and community networks.

Suárez added, “The provision of lightly licensed white space devices will allow for affordable broadband and internet access to be delivered in unserved and underserved regions of Kenya. This decision is enabling a new digital ecosystem, giving access to spectrum to local Kenyan Internet Service Providers that are making incredible efforts to provide affordable connectivity in rural areas, and especially now during the COVID-19 crisis that connectivity has proven to be an essential service.”

It is thanks to the partnership between the Communications Authority of Kenya and the Strathmore University, @iLab Africa supported by the UK Prosperity Fund Digital Access Programme that the success of the TVWS framework has been brought to Kenya and this seems to be the first step in a very innovative long-term vision about dynamic spectrum management, led by the Authority.

World's First Airport Public OpenRoaming™ Network over Wi-Fi 6 Goes Live at São Paulo/Guarulhos International Airport

Boingo, Broadcom, Cisco & Samsung showcase WBA OpenRoaming™ at South America’s busiest airport offering a friction-free secure, world-class Wi-Fi experience

London, 18th May 2021 – The Wireless Broadband Alliance (WBA) today announced that travelers, employees and retailers at Brazil’s São Paulo/Guarulhos International Airport (GRU) are now able to access the world’s first at-airport Wi-Fi 6 network using OpenRoaming. OpenRoaming™ provides secure, automatic and friction-free access to the Cisco-powered network that is managed by Boingo. The WBA OpenRoaming service will be available to travelers in GRU’s international Terminal 3, using best-of-breed Samsung Galaxy devices.

With OpenRoaming™, users will be able to experience the speed, power and simplicity of one of the most advanced wireless networks in the world.

Based on 802.11ax and featuring channels up to 160 MHz wide, Wi-Fi 6 can deliver speeds up to three times faster than 802.11 technologies. Designed for use in the 2.4, 5 and new 6 GHz bands, Wi-Fi 6 also provides greater reliability, ultra-low latency and higher network efficiency in airports, stadiums and other environments with large numbers of simultaneously connected devices. Passengers and airport employees will no longer have to log in to public Wi-Fi networks repeatedly. They will be able to enjoy a seamless experience when watching videos or gaming as they’re waiting for their flight. It will also improve consumers’ experience in the retail stores as it will allow a smoother check-out process and support back-office operations.

The service frees travelers, airport employees and other users from the repeat registration and log-in that public Wi-Fi networks often require. Instead of re-registering or re-entering log-in credentials, GRU users will enjoy the convenience of instant network access matched with enterprise-grade security. When coupled with the Wi-Fi 6 infrastructure, OpenRoaming also helps provide a carrier-grade Wi-Fi experience.

Boingo designed, installed and manages the GRU network, which was the world’s first airport Wi-Fi 6 network when it launched in October 2020. Travelers have up to four hours of free access, including from their older generation Wi-Fi devices, thanks to Wi-Fi’s backward compatibility.

The GRU network features a unified Wi-Fi 6 infrastructure based on Cisco Catalyst access points, controllers, and switches. Samsung provided GRU operations employees with ruggedized handsets and other devices enabled with Broadcom’s W-Fi 6 chipset, enabling them to use Wi-Fi 6 to maximize productivity and responsiveness to passengers whilst different OpenRoaming identities are used to separate automatic access for GRU employees versus guests.

“GRU is South America’s busiest airport,” said Gustavo Figueiredo, GRU Airport´s CEO. “With Wi-Fi 6, our passengers and operations employees now have reliable, seamless and secure connectivity to assure a better traveling experience.”

“This world-class, world-first airport OpenRoaming network at GRU showcases how the WBA membership collaborates to provide consumers and business users with reliable, blazingly fast connectivity,” said WBA CEO Tiago Rodrigues. “The GRU network also highlights the critical role that OpenRoaming plays in providing people with instant, ultra-secure access to Wi-Fi networks. That peace of mind is key for continuing to build and maintain confidence in public networks.”

WBA Member quotes

Boingo CTO, Dr. Derek Peterson
“GRU is the latest example of Boingo’s commitment to providing cutting edge technologies that enhance the traveler’s experience and enable airport operations staff to efficiently and effectively serve those travelers,” said Boingo CTO Dr. Derek Peterson. “Boingo was the first to deploy a Wi-Fi 6 airport network, and now we’re working within the WBA to raise the bar yet again with the world’s first OpenRoaming network at an airport.”

Housing Technology Launches Transformative ‘Housing On Demand’ Streaming Platform - Launch Comment by Midge Ure (Musician), Lord John Bird (Big Issue)

A new ‘on-demand’ streaming app is being launched by Housing Technology, the UK’s leading technology information service and broadcaster for the UK housing sector. The Housing Technology On-Demand app will deliver the expertise of technology leaders from the world of housing to those working in the sector around the clock. Topics range from the future of 3D printed homes to the use of the Internet of Things (IoT) systems for managing areas as diverse as heating, home security and fire safety.

Housing Technology On Demand App

Housing Technology On Demand App

The new platform aims to emulate the success of the sector’s leading Housing Technology Executive Conference event, which for 12 years has brought housing professionals and IT vendors together to share insights and solutions that improve tenant services. CEO George Grant, co-founder of Housing Technology, sees the new On Demand service as a pivotal development, borne out of both the recent pandemic and the online approach taken for the latest executive conference.

“At our most recent two-day online event, there were over 450 housing decision makers watching over 30 presentations amounting to 20 hours of high-quality content,” he said.

“This response to the restrictions of the pandemic feeds quality content into the new On Demand service and the result is a revolutionary media platform capable of really driving progress for the most important people – the tenants and customers of housing providers. If we have made progress there, then it’s all been worthwhile.”

The Housing Technology On Demand streaming platform builds upon this ground-breaking 12th conference incorporating live reports with insights from experts. It combines live presentations, demonstrations and interviews with a professional studio team and keynote speeches.

Musician MIDGE URE, who opened this year’s conference, believes that the new On Demand streaming service will galvanise innovation in the media space for social housing noting, “It is good to see how a genuinely new development like streaming can benefit the social housing sector. If you cast your mind back to LiveAid in 1985 much of what we did then, by broadcasting across two continents, was new. And just look how far technology has come since that time in music.”

Another leading commentator also see the transition as a transformative evolution. Lord JOHN BIRD, the Big Issue founder, noted, “I’ve worked with these guys for some years and have seem them pull together a tremendous industry response, with collaboration between housing associations on one hand and the software vendors on the other. By adding this highly innovative On Demand streaming channel, that sense of innovation by collaboration is so much stronger and immediate. It means key developments will be communicated earlier and the interests of big tech and government can be held to account in an accessible online digital format.”

Launch co-presenter, national television news correspondent Emma Birchley, was impressed by George Grant’s genuine drive to innovate when it comes to the housing sector as a way of improving the lives of tenants in social housing.

“George has a vision to deliver something new for the sector with a professional team helping him make it happen,” she said.

“There is no doubt he’s determined to deliver a highly innovative new service which will offer expert insight into the latest developments in the sector on demand.”

Improvements in 5G Radio Signal Processing Can Deliver $193m Savings per US Fixed Wireless Access mmWave O-RAN Network

Mobile Experts research, commissioned by AccelerComm, reveals enhanced LDPC IP can reduce a US operator’s gNodeB requirements by 2550

Southampton, UK 11th May 2021: AccelerComm, the company supercharging 5G with IP which increases spectral efficiency and reduces latency, today announced the findings of a report commissioned from Mobile Experts, which shows significant savings for mobile operators adopting advanced channel coding solutions. Titled: The Dollars are in the details, the Mobile Experts analysis calculates that improvements to spectral efficiency through enhanced channel coding can reduce the number of gNodeBs required in a typical US network by 2550, a saving of $193m on infrastructure costs. Mobile Experts will be presenting the findings in detail at a webinar in conjunction with AccelerComm hosted by Light Reading on May 26th 2021 at 10:00 a.m New York / 3:00 p.m London – to sign-up visit this link: https://www.lightreading.com/webinar.asp?webinar_id=1891&;webinar_promo=6288

Low Density Parity Coding (LDPC) is a linear error correction scheme which helps to clean things up as noise and interference gets in the way of reliable 5G data transmission. The algorithm and architecture used to implement an LDPC decoder can change its performance dramatically.

AccelerComm’s Advanced LDPC solution delivers a 3 dB improvement in uplink SINR by adopting a holistic approach to the design of the PUSCH decoder chain, including LDPC, channel estimation, and MIMO equalization functions. The analyst firm modelled nationwide U.S. deployments based on O-RAN technology using standard LDPC decoder implementations and AccelerComm’s Advanced LDPC IP to identify the impact on the spectral efficiency of 5G mmWave O-RAN networks.

“The major OEM vendors in the 5G market have invested a lot of resources into optimizing their LDPC decoder implementations, but emerging O-RAN vendors just don’t have the resources to optimize each step in the processing chain,” said Joe Madden of Mobile Experts. “Many are using general-purpose LDPC coders and decoders, with generic architectures and algorithms derived from Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, or 3GPP networks and therefore are not optimized for 5G environments. As this research shows, replacing these with dedicated tailored solutions, such as those offered by AccelerComm, can deliver significant performance and cost enhancements.”

“While there are significant benefits to O-RAN technology, there are still areas where it lags behind the major vendors, in particular in the area of 5G NR uplink sensitivity,” said Rob Barnes, VP Sales and Marketing of AccelerComm. “As this research clearly shows, deploying an AccelerComm Advanced LDPC solution helps operators to increase network performance and reduce costs.”

More information on the research conducted by Mobile Experts on behalf of AccelerComm will be shared in a Light Reading webinar and in a subsequent whitepaper. To register please follow the link: link: https://www.lightreading.com/webinar.asp?webinar_id=1891&;webinar_promo=6288
